I had such an incredible time meeting Nate and Romi for their engagement photos on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina! Also, how cute is her name — pronounced ROH-ME. As someone who has two little girls with unique names (Knightly and Troian), I was completely enamored by hers. But I digress…
Romi’s sister actually found me (shoutout to Mai!). Then I connected with Nathan so he could tell me about his and Romi’s relationship and the surprise proposal he had planned for the day before! They were flying in from Texas, and though I live in South Carolina now, this was my first time shooting in Hilton Head specifically. I didn’t have a go-to location yet, especially on Hilton Head Island because there’s so much private property. But after some research and chatting with a few connections I have, we chose the beautiful Folly Field Beach for a sunrise session, which couldn’t have been better.
The forecast: cloudy and rainy all weekend! But not only did we miss the storm, God seriously showed up with the perfect sunrise peeking out in the painted sky.
I’m a huge fan of sunrise sessions, elopements, you name it. I think getting up in time for sunrise makes the whole day better (that circadian rhythm though)! So as a natural night owl, I love when I book sunrise sessions that force me to get up. 🙈 It’s always worth it on its own, but extra worth it when I spend it with rad people such as these two, doing something I love. The fact that we were greeted by dolphins as we walked out onto the beach was also a bonus.
Then you have the finished photos, which was icing on the cake… Nate and Romi are a romance novel turned into a movie that I could watch on repeat.
Of course, getting in the water is MANDATORY for beach photos of any kind!
This is just a peek into their engagement photos. I actually delivered over 200 images in their gallery, which is well above my average. But I couldn’t narrow it down anymore!
As always, I go for a more documentary-style approach, incorporating prompts that facilitate natural interactions between my couple. It allows the freedom to slow down and have a genuine connection with each other, rather than constantly getting ready for the next direction I might give. You’re still getting any guidance and direction you may need. But also allow yourself to release that awkwardness we ALL feel in front of the camera and just BE.
Loved this South Carolina engagement session and want to book one of your own? I’d love for you to fill out my contact form so we can document your own love story. Wherever you are in the world!
